The Pines at Ore House Plaza

Dating back to 1889, the property has been established by James Lewis who bought the entire 280 acres of land. Ever since, the property has been owned by multiple generations including Senator Jerry McWilliams, the Russian Count Nicholas Lakuska and the Nefgzer Cattle Ranch Company. It wasn’t until February 1971 when the barn was finally converted into a restaurant. If you’re looking for a classic place to eat in Steamboat Springs, Ore House at the Pine Grove fits the bill.

At 16, Buchler was selling hot dogs in Huntington Beach, California. He also ran a Sizzler steakhouse and then worked in Boulder, where one of his responsibilities was feeding University of Colorado athletes. Jeff Little bought the business in 1990, and the restaurant, known for having the only certified Angus steaks in Steamboat, thrived.

Buchler wanted a business he could call his own that would help him support his family, which includes his wife, Deborah, and three children. Most recently, Buchler was the vice president of operations for a Burger King franchise with 20 restaurants in Colorado Springs and Denver. A rambling building a group of hyperactive airline pilots took over sometime in the mid-Sixties and filled with bizarre crap they picked up in their travels all over the world. It was their playground and it was open to the public. One day I wanted to find out if a friend was at our favorite watering hole, the Oar House bar down by the beach on funky Main St. He said the football players were especially fond of baked beans mixed with sliced hot dogs.

The Pines at Ore House

The Ore House is an iconic Steamboat restaurant, the perfect setting for hosting weddings and other special events. We feature three private indoor spaces, as well as our romantic patio and garden area. It was a working cattle ranch until it was sold in 1971, and the barn was then converted into a restaurant. The Ore House is located in one of Steamboat’s commercial centers and is housed in a barn that was a part of a 280-acre ranch homesteaded in 1889 by James Lewis. The building and its 1-acre property sold for $2.4 million, and the business was sold separately for an undisclosed price. Though the property has been upgraded, they still maintained the original design and aesthetic of the barn itself.

It’s one of the top steakhouses and most iconic restaurants in town. Whether you’re envisioning your big day rooted in western charm or maintaining a more modern spin, The Ore House can seamlessly see you through any kind of celebration. We offer multiple reception areas, ranging from intimate to expansive, along with our beautiful outdoor patio and garden area for daytime ceremonies. All of our wedding packages are a starting point and may be customized.
